YouTube Free of Google+ Account

08/06/2015

One would no longer require a Google+ account to create a YouTube channel or comment on videos after Google announced the decoupling decision of YouTube from Google+.

This move has been welcomed by many users who felt that the It giant was simply leveraging its position over YouTube to build up Google+ user counts.

“People have told us that accessing all of their Google stuff with one account makes life a whole lot easier. But we’ve also heard that it doesn’t make sense for your Google+ profile to be your identity in all the other Google products you use,” said Bradley Horowitz, VP of Streams, Photos and Sharing at Google.

There are rumors already in the market that the latest announcement by Google implies that this was an acknowledgement that the Google+ platform was not working as successfully as Facebook and there is a serious need for re-imagining.

A year ago Google had however said that the strategy of the company with respect to providing great user experiences across Google+, Hangouts and Photos had not changed and is likely to remain similar.

The move is also seen by analysts as a strategic move by the company to provide a more “interest based social experience”.  .this would probably means that Google would now shift focus on developing and bettering their Google Photos app and Hangouts.

A section of analysts like Seth Fiegerman however claim this move as a an acceptance of defeat by Google about sing Google+ to complete with Facebbok and instead develop Google + more like a Pinterest lookalike to try and build some momentum.

The shift in focus for Google, according to analysts, is more towards increasing apps dealing with shared interests like the Google+ Collections which the company introduced in May this year. This app allows users to group their posts by topic.

Apart from decoupling YouTube from Google+ account, one would also, in a few months, be able to use just one account for accessing all Google apps. This means that just one Google account would be enough for share content, communicate with contacts, create a YouTube channel and more, all across Google.

“For people who already created Google+ profiles but don’t plan to use Google+ itself, we’ll offer better options for managing and removing those public profiles,” says Horowitz.

“We decided it’s time to fix this (requirement of Google+ account), not only in YouTube, but across a user’s entire experience at Google. We want to formally retire the notion that a Google+ membership is required for anything at Google… other than using Google+ itself,” added Horowitz.

But Google has advised not immediately delinking the Google+ account from YouTube as that can leave the entire YouTube channel deleted.
