"We now have everything we need to distribute vaccines quickly. But we still need to ramp up production," WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told at a briefing (quoted by Reuters). The WHO also approved a vaccine produced by AstraZeneca-SKBio (Republic of Korea) and the Serum Institute of India.
"We continue to encourage developers of COVID-19 vaccines to submit their dossiers to WHO for review at the same time as they are sent to regulators," the WHO chief said.
Nearly 109 million people have been infected with the coronavirus worldwide. More than 2.5 million of those have died of the consequences of infection.
Earlier, Tedros Ghebreyesus reported that the count of people vaccinated against coronavirus in the world grew over the number of those infected during the pandemic.
