Thomas Schaefer, the company's CEO, confessed that the cost reduction initiative introduced a year ago is falling several billion euros short of the goal. Volkswagen is experiencing financial losses, stated board chairperson Daniela Cavallo in a communication with staff.

According to the FT, the board is now examining the German plants, internal wage agreements, and job retention program at VW until the end of 2029.

According to German regulations, works councils are chosen to safeguard the welfare of workers at big corporations and to have a role in their oversight committees.
