Volkswagen denies reports of selling plants to Chinese companies

Speculations suggest that Volkswagen could possibly sell some of its future plants in Germany to Chinese firms, while joint ventures with a "third party" remain a possibility, according to Christopher Hauss, the company's head of strategic and financial communications.

Previously, Reuters news agency, referencing a source, stated that Chinese officials and car manufacturers are contemplating the acquisition of VW factories in Germany, which the company had originally planned to shut down, but later revised its strategy due to pressure from labor unions.

The source further clarified that the stance of China will be influenced by the new German government following the elections in February. Another source from the agency mentioned that staff from one of the shutting plants are open to collaborating with China on a joint venture, provided that the VW brand remains intact.

"This is our stance: we prioritize the ethical treatment of workers at our facilities. As a result, we do not provide comments on such conjecture," Hauss stated.

He added that Volkswagen's stance is that the Osnabrück facility will remain operational for the company's purposes even after the production of its sole manufactured vehicle—the VW T-Roc—ceases in 2027, whereas only the assembly site in Dresden is set to shut down by the end of this year.
