Ver.di demands a collective agreement between representatives of Air Berlin, the buyer and the union, in which guarantees for the airline employees will be indicated. In the near future Ver.di’s representative will meet leadership of the German bankrupt group to discuss this issue.
Earlier this week, the Chairman of the Air Berlin Thomas Winkelmann promised a good outlook for 80% of the staff. At the moment, the airline employs 8 thousand employees.
Ver.di union also requires taking care of the other employees of Air Berlin, which are not in the 80%, and which accordingly do not shine the prospect of moving to work for the new owner of Air Berlin. For these employees need to develop a special social plan, the representatives of Ver.di state. Many employees of a bankrupt airline are already in active search for new vacancies.
Last week, Air Berlin chose its customers. Leading German air carrier Lufthansa and British low-cost airline EasyJet have become the preferred candidates for the purchase of the bulk of the assets of the bankrupt Air Berlin. Negotiations with potential buyers will continue until 12 October.
Air Berlin launched a bankruptcy procedure in mid-August. The German government and the airline partners decided that this solution is ideal for business restructuring. Lufthansa officially showed its interest in buying most of Air Berlin's business in late August.
