“We are currently starting a new gas exports course. We are working on a project with the government of Trinidad and Tobago, and we have a Shell vessel that has just arrived to assist in verifying the reserves in the Dragon field.” Rodriguez stated that these alliances will transform the nation into a gas exporter within a few months.

In December 2023, PDVSA licensed Shell and National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago (NGC) to investigate and utilize the Dragon gas field in the Paria Peninsula.

Trinidad and Tobago is looking to boost the usage of its LNG facilities by sourcing feedstock from Venezuela. It was observed in March that there is an excess of LNG capacity ranging from 20% to 30%, while production is currently at 2.8 Bcf/d (compared to 4.2 Bcf/d before).
