Utility Apps Can Save Eight Percent Energy Consumption At Home, Says Navigant Research

10/30/2015

Navigant Research conducts a study on energy market sector that powers residential needs, whereby it informs that utility apps have helped users to cut down on almost eight percent of energy consumption.

Navigant Research in a new report looks into the market of “residential energy application” which covers the inhibitors, regional trends and drivers of the market, whereby the focus applies on the “prosumer”, consumer and the utility segment of it.

In fact, more and more residential clients are turning towards “energy-focused apps” besides “energy-related hardware” vendors and other such services that increase the “energy efficiency” at home and save them their hard earned money. New tools have been introduced, besides making data available at customers’ fingertips so that they can monitor their usage of energy at home and in turn reduce their consumption. Likewise, utilities “benefit” from the “efficient grid operations”. As per the report, the energy apps have helped the customers to cut down “six percent to eight percent” of their consumption on an average.

In the words of Navigant Research’s main “research analyst”, Neil Strother:
“Customers are using apps via mobile devices like smartphones and tablets, as well as PCs, for more and more of their daily needs. Energy services companies in the 21st century need to stay in tune with them by providing appropriate apps and developing an adaptable and long-term strategy, helping customers to more efficiently monitor and manage their energy consumption.”

Several utilities offering energy apps to the clients at present include:
“DTE Energy, Direct Energy, and Infinite Energy”

The abovementioned apps, according to BusinessWire, have generated positive “customer experience” so far. However, the said market is yet to mature claims the report, although is expected to grow” as the energy service sector and utility companies turn more “technologically savvy”.

According to BusinessWire:
“The report, Energy Apps for Residential Customers, examines the residential energy app market, with a focus on three segments: consumer apps, prosumer apps, and utility apps. The study analyzes the drivers, inhibitors, and regional trends related to energy apps and highlights several case studies where these apps are being used today. Some of the key players in the residential energy app market are profiled, and various business models and best practices for designing and deploying winning energy apps are discussed. An Executive Summary of the report is available for free download on the Navigant Research website”.

The Navigant Research is the research body of Navigant that conducts market researches besides providing “benchmarking services” in the industrial sectors that are under high regulation or are in their changing phase. Navigant Research has been concentrating on “energy sector” market through in depth analysis before forming reports on “global clean technology market. Talking about the methodology adapted by the Navigant research team, BusinessWire informs that it is a combination of:
“...supply-side industry analysis, end-user primary research and demand assessment, and deep examination of technology trends to provide a comprehensive view of the Smart Energy, Smart Utilities, Smart Transportation, and Smart Buildings sectors”.
