MarketWatch reports that Uber Technologies, an American company that offers cab booking and food delivery services, was fined 290 million euros in the Netherlands for transferring information about European drivers to the United States.

The DPA of the Netherlands announced that the organization breached the EU General Data Protection Regulation by keeping data on European drivers on US servers.

The data includes bank information, pictures, IDs, and sometimes criminal histories and health records.

Drivers in France filed a complaint regarding violations, resulting in a fine being issued in the Netherlands, where the company's European headquarters is situated.

Uber intends to dispute the penalty.
