UN: Civilian death toll in Ukraine exceeds 9,000

The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights updated statistics on civilian deaths in Ukraine. As of 18 June, 9,083 persons died and 15,790 were injured in Ukraine since 24 February 2022.

4,105 people died and 5,861 were injured in the Ukrainian-controlled region of Donbas, according to the UN. 718 persons lost their lives and 2,521 were hurt in the DNR and LNR, which are under Russian administration.

Since the beginning of June, 112 civilians died and 445 been injured, according to the figuresThe organization notes that explosive weapons with a wide range of effect were to blame for the majority of civilian injuries.

The UN emphasizes that since information on the dead and injured is being withheld from numerous areas where fierce combat has occurred, the actual numbers may be significantly higher.
