During a speech at his Mar-a-Lago residence on Tuesday, Trump stated that the economy will be reconstructed using a system of fair and reasonable duties, specifically targeting European products in the United States.

He claimed that the US is often purchasing goods from European countries without establishing fair trade terms for exports to the EU, resulting in the EU benefiting at the expense of the US. Providing an example, Trump mentioned an encounter during his initial presidency where he inquired Angela Merkel, who was serving as Chancellor of Germany at the time, about the number of Chevrolet cars in Berlin and was informed that there were only a small number. Simultaneously, as per the ex-president, the US is actively bringing in vehicles from German car makers.

Trump stated that the tariff system would help the US 'regain the edge'.

The ex-president remembered when he placed tariffs on Chinese steel, allowing him to 'rescue the US steel sector'.
