According to the NHTSA and the Ministry of Transport, aluminum bolts securing the power steering with the gear housing may break or corrode on some vehicles. Tesla reported that they will recall Model X, released until mid-October 2016. This will not affect the cars of this model released later.

The Ministry of Transport of Canada said that Tesla will replace the hanging bolts and, if necessary, change the steering gear.

At the end of January, Tesla recalled 14,000 electric vehicles in China due to problems with airbags issued by the Japanese company Takata. The recall will affect Model S electric cars released in 2014–2016.

The recall of Tesla electric vehicles is part of the largest recall in the history of automobile recalls, which was caused by the fact that the airbags from Takata exploded when they were deployed. This led to the deaths of 20 people and several hundred injured. Around the world, more than 37 million cars were recalled, among the companies affected by the events were Honda, Toyota, Audi, BMW, General Motors, Nissan.
