The newspaper writes that discussions regarding an investment of "billions of euros" to develop infrastructure in Italy are taking place between the Italian government and Amazon Web Service (AWS), the company's cloud services business.

The sides are still at odds over how much money would be invested and where, but according to one of the sources, AWS is thinking of either building a new data center or growing its current one in Milan.

When AWS first built its data center in Italy in 2020, the corporation declared its intention to invest €2 billion by 2029 in the enterprise.

The Ministry of Economic Development in Italy did not reply to a request for comment, and neither AWS nor the country's digital transformation agency would comment.

AWS has declared its plan to invest €15.7 billion in data centers located in northeastern Spain's Aragon area. Furthermore, the business intends to invest €7.8 billion in Germany, according to Reuters. One of the agency's sources claims that although AWS would invest billions in Italy, it will do so at a lower rate than in Spain.
