The Renault CEO noted that “there are numerous opportunities for collaboration,” stating that a partnership with the Chinese firm is “potentially more intuitive than with Nissan,” considering the two companies' traditionally distinct perspectives.
This week, Renault and Geely revealed their intentions to collaborate in manufacturing and marketing electric vehicles in Brazil. They also manufacture powertrains in South Korea.
Geely Automobile Holdings, established in 1997, is owned by Chinese billionaire Li Shufu. It presently possesses Volvo Cars and the London Vehicle Company. It is the principal shareholder of British Lotus Cars and the largest stakeholder in both Volvo Group and Daimler.
Renault, which is slowly distancing itself from its partnership with Nissan, still retains a 36% share in the Japanese company.
