Artificial intelligence (AI) models are being tested for a "temporary prototype" of new internet search features by US-based OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT.

The goal of the SearchGPT prototype is to provide pertinent results with sources as soon as possible. It will also be possible to ask clarifying questions as in a normal conversation.

A limited number of consumers and publishers have access to the prototype, and the company will receive feedback from them.

SearchGPT operates independently of AI model training, and search results will still include websites that decline to participate.

It is intended for ChatGPT to incorporate the prototype's best features.

OpenAI notes that "searching for information on the Internet can be tedious. It is frequently impossible to get meaningful results the first time around. We think that by adding pertinent information from the Internet to our models' dialog functions, it will be quicker and easier to find what you're looking for."
