Japanese corporation Nissan Motor officially accused Carlos Ghosn of stealing and filed a petition to institute criminal proceedings against him, the automaker said in a statement.

World Economic Forum
"Nissan filed a lawsuit after it became clear that the payments made by Nissan to a foreign dealer company through a subsidiary were actually directed by Ghosn to his personal enrichment and were not necessary from a business point of view. Such an act is completely unacceptable", - the Japanese corporation noted in the statement.

"Nissan takes this unfortunate situation very seriously and once again expresses its sincere regret over what happened," the press release says.

Carlos Ghosn is considered one of the most successful managers of the global automotive industry. He became famous after taking Nissan out of the crisis and strengthening the market position of the Renault alliance with Nissan.

Ghosn was one of the highest-paid executives in the world: in a year alone, his income could reach $ 13 million as head of Nissan and up to 10 million euros for leading the French company Renault.
