Myanmar earthquake death toll tops 2,000

The State Administrative Council of Myanmar stated, as reported by Xinhua news agency, that over 2,000 individuals died due to an earthquake in Myanmar. Local officials report that 3,900 individuals sustained injuries and an additional 270 are unaccounted for.

A 7.7 magnitude earthquake hit Myanmar on March 28. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported that at least 14 aftershocks occurred afterward. The following day, a different earthquake measuring 5.1 struck the state, as documented by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC).

One of the strongest earthquakes in Myanmar in the past hundred years impacted airports, bridges, and roads. The natural calamity occurred during a civil war that has devastated the nation's economy, as reported by Reuters. Local officials have requested assistance from foreign nations and global organizations.
