11/21/2017

There would be a growth of more than 8% CAGR for the period between 2017 and 2021 in the global market for premium denim jeans, predicts a Technavio market research analysis.

The latest report om the market arrived at the conclusion after conducting an analysis of the current scenario and growth prospects in the aforesaid market and the future business drivers and hindrances. The report also noted that almost 56% of the market share for the year 2016 in premium denim was accounted for by the women’s section even as the report includes a growth list for men, and children as two other major end-user segments.

The research identified a number of market drivers that are contributing to the growth of the global premium denim jeans market. These are creation of innovative product designs, corporates and firms accepting denim jeans as a casual business attire and a growing demand from customer for high-end and premium designer labels.

The report states that fierce competition from counterfeit apparel manufacturers had s forced the established brands and vendors to constantly innovate. Making the end products more flexible to compressions and stretches and thereby making them more comfortable to wear is the strategy that the manufacturers are using to attract customers.

Traditional sportswear functionalities like thermo-regulation, moisture management, UV protection, and anti-rip features are made available in the innovative denims because of the use of soft knitted denim. The durability of the jeans is enhanced due to anti-bacterial and cool touch technology because they are made of aramid fibers which also makes them suitable for street sports.

“Jeans are differentiated from other apparel due to the incredible stretch and flexibility they offer. This is achieved by blending cotton or spandex with the denim. This innovative approach has also helped the vendors to sustain the hike in the price of cotton. Manufacturers of jeans are setting the trend of offering a new generation of fabric by delimiting the boundaries through hybrid blending techniques. For instance, Diesel introduced Jogg Jean, a hybrid jean, which has the characteristics of jersey material yet looks like an authentic denim-made jean,” says Narendra Nandaigari, a lead analyst at Technavio for apparel and textile research.

There have been transcending changes at the workplace where casual attire, including jeans and denim jackets are being allowed by employers at work and this has enhanced the demand for jeans. Some of the well-known companies that allow their employees to wear causal dresses include Google, Zappos, Facebook, and Twitter.

“The vendors in the denim industry are utilizing this momentum to enhance their market shares by producing trendy jeans that look professional and presentable at work for men and women. They also market ancillary accessories such as blazers, shoes, belts, and watches that match the jeans worn by the customers,” says Narendra.

Further, the premium nature of denim jeans also has gained social status and thereby users are also buying such products to enhance their social status, and showcase their social status and fashion sense. Therefore, focus on styles, sizes, colors, designs, and other aesthetic features is the cornerstone for vendors in the production of jeans apparel.
