The foundry sector's loss increased from $5.2 billion to $5.5 billion as a result of a decline in revenue. The segment brought in $18.9 billion in sales last year as opposed to $27.5 billion in 2022.
According to Joseph Moore, an analyst at Morgan Stanley, "the bottom line here is that the company made the decision to separate the foundry business from its chip development operations, and Intel Foundry interacts with semiconductor operations in the same way it does with other customers," Market Watch writes.
Intel itself says that the foundry segment will break even "about halfway between now and the end of 2030" when its losses peak this year.
