IMF allocates $1.3 billion in financial support to Ukraine

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) Executive Board has given its approval for Ukraine to receive $1.3 billion as part of a fast-track funding instrument.

The funds will be utilized to finance necessities related to the balance of payments, including food.

The IMF states that the conflict in Ukraine caused a fall in GDP, an increase in inflation and the budget deficit, as well as disruptions in trade.

The fund also observes that despite exceptionally challenging conditions, the government was able to "keep an essential level of macrofinancial stability." The IMF is confident that the funding will encourage additional aid from Ukraine's creditors and donors.

In 2022, the IMF projects a 35% decline in the GDP of Ukraine. The agency authorized $1.4 billion in emergency finance for Ukraine in the spring.
