Google announced that now Android Wear will works with the Apple iPhone. Though Google’s announcement does not confirm whether one would need an Android Wear app for iPhone but some who have tried the new apparatus from Android Wear confirm that it is necessary.
The Google announcement also does not make it clear whether any or older versions of iPhone would support all Android Wear devices. Google just says “from now on” and hence there is ambiguity. However the LG Watch Urbane has been included in the support.
“When you wear something every day, you want to be sure it really works for you. That’s why Android Wear offers countless design choices, so you can find the watch that fits your style. Want a round watch with a more classic look? Feel like a new watch band? How about changing things up every day with watch faces from artists and designers? With Android Wear you can do all of that. And now, Android Wear watches work with iPhones,” announced David Singleton, Director of Engineering, Android Wear in the official blog of Google.
All the helpful and simple information would be brought to the Android Watch or any of the Android Wear by pairing it with any of the iPhones listed by Google - iPhone 5, 5c, 5s, 6, or 6 Plus running on iOS 8.2+.
The service was rolled out on Sunday.
The new offering by Google allows an Android Wear, paired with an iPhone, to get information on, say a Google wrist watch, about phone calls, messages and notifications from the favourite apps. The display of the Android Wear would be always-on and hence one would not be required to move or shake the wrist to wake up the watch.
Singleton identifies the other features of the watch like setting fitness goals and watch progress of the daily and weekly workout results as the watch would automatically track walking and running and even measure the heart rate.
The watch can also be sued to save time with smart help by receive timely tips such as altering the user when he has to leave for appointments, the most recent traffic info and flight status.
Other applicability include voice response to questions. By simply saying “Ok Google” and then asking a question, for example “Is it going to rain in London tomorrow?”, would give the user an answer . it can also be used to create alerts through voice response, for examples directing the watch to “Remind me to pack an umbrella”.
Google also announced that the Android Wear for iOS would also be supported by the works with the LG Watch Urbane. In the coming months, the company would include those from Huawei, Asus and Motorola which would also be supported by the iOS.
