Global debt reaches record $307T in the first half 2023

The Financial Times reported that global debt hit a record $307 trillion in the first half of the year, referring to information from the Institute of International Finance (IIF).

In the first half of the year, the total amount of debt—which includes liabilities of governments, businesses, and households—rose by $10 trillion, maintaining the previous high from the beginning of 2022.

In the period from January to June, the global debt-to-GDP ratio increased 2 percentage points to 336%.

The record of 360% was set during the coronavirus pandemic.
