Global chip sales growth in August hit the highest in 2.5 years

According to a press release from the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA), global semiconductor revenue increased by 20.6% to $53.12 billion in August, rising from $44.04 billion in the previous year's same month.

This is the greatest increase since April 2022.

In August, there was a 3.5% increase in shipments compared to the previous month.

SIA President and CEO John Neuffer stated in the announcement that the global semiconductor market experienced substantial growth in August, reaching its highest sales volume for the month.

He observed that sales had increased for the fifth month in a row when compared to the previous month.

In August, there was a 43.9% increase in chip sales in the Americas compared to the previous year, with a 2% increase in Japan, a 19.2% increase in China, and a 17.1% increase in Asia-Pacific and other regions. Meanwhile, in Europe, there was a 9% decrease.

In comparison to July, chip sales in the Americas rose by 7.5%, in Japan by 2.5%, in the PRC by 1.7%, in APAC by 1.5%, and in Europe by 2.4%. Neuffer stated that the rise in sales across all regions from one month to the next was the first occurrence since October 2023.

SIA comprises around 99% of semiconductor manufacturers in the United States and approximately 66% of chip makers from other nations.
