The existing General Motors assembly centre Detroit-Hamtramk will be re-equipped for the new plant. It will be called Factory ZERO, which should underline the desire for zero emission of pollutants into the atmosphere.

"The enterprise will be equipped with advanced equipment and designed with a focus on environmentally friendly production. The Factory ZERO plant will produce the GMC HUMMER EV, Cruise Origin and the unmanned electric vehicle under development," General Motors said.

The company added that in the first phase the plant will introduce an electric pickup truck GMC HUMMER EV. It is planned that production will be launched at the end of 2021.

Earlier in September, General Motors Vice President Ken Morris announced that the concern plans to launch production of its own electric engines.
