"There are several dangers In Libya. First, is the presence of 4-5 thous. ISIL’s militant groups in Libya, in particular, in the Sirte area. We must fight against them. Secondly, it is necessary to avoid the migratory flow from this country, which ISIL could use for their benefit. We must not allow the migration flow to become an additional source of income for ISIL. "- said Le Drian.

According to the French Ministry of Defense’s information, "many hundreds of thousands of migrants" can head from Libya to Europe. "Maybe 800 thousand" - explained the Minister.

The Minister is regarding the task of creating in Libya a national unity government as "urgent". "This goal is now very close. However, it is necessary that countries, close to Libya, contributed to the recognition of the new government, so that it was able to stay in Tripoli. Exactly this new government can give the legal basis for EU vessels, engaged in" Operation Sofia", to intervene and prevent the illegal transportation of migrants", - concluded Le Drian.

"Europe is on the verge of a large-scale humanitarian crisis", said earlier the management of the United Nations’ High Commissioner for Refugees. This is linked, in particular, to a significant accumulation of refugees and migrants in Greece.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has reported that more than 130 thousand people arrived in Europe via the Mediterranean Sea since the beginning of 2016. This number exceeded the number of arrivals in the refugee and migrant region for the first half of last year.
"In general, the level of arrivals across the Mediterranean slowed slightly during the winter, but still remains relatively high. According to this morning’s report, 131,724 people took the trip during January and February (122 637 of them came to Greece). This exceeds the total value of arrivals for the first half of 2015. This year, 410 people were killed, "- states the UNHCR's official website.

UNHCR considers that "Europe is on the verge of a large-scale humanitarian crisis", which is obliged, in particular, to a significant accumulation of refugees and migrants in Greece. According to UNHCR, the number of refugees and migrants in Greece who need placement reached 24 thousand by the beginning of the March, with 8500 of them located near the village Idomeni, close the border with Macedonia. Such a situation, UNHCR notes, creates conditions under which people lack food, water, sanitary facilities and places to hide.
