Thus, the average temperature in September was 21.5 degrees Celsius, or around 3.5 degrees above average, according to the French weather service Meteo-France. This number was the highest for the first month of fall in the records of observations, which date back to 1900. The previous high point occurred in September 1949, when the average temperature was 20.3 °C.

The September 2023 was warmest in German history, according to the DWD meteorological organization. The typical temperature was 4 degrees Celsius above the average for the area.

Poland, in turn, experienced the hottest September in more than a century of records, according to local forecasters.

The Royal Belgian Meteorological Institute of Belgium reported a national record since 1961. A representative for the institute claimed that September in Belgium had never been that warm.

Austria and Switzerland both saw September temperatures that set records.

This weekend was unusually warm for this time of year in Spain and Portugal.
