A senior EU official told reporters that despite the ongoing conversation about Ukraine during the EU summit on October 17-18, member states have already reached a consensus on providing a 35 billion euro loan to support Kiev.

“Our concern will be when the revenue from the Russian assets can be used to repay the loan, as this poses a risk. (...) However, despite this, Ukraine will still receive the money,” the person speaking to the media in Brussels on Tuesday said, informing them about the upcoming meeting of European leaders.

He stated that the primary objective of this summit discussion is to “reiterate promises to help Ukraine” and provide additional weaponry. “The discussion will also include the $50 billion loan.”

Last week, the Committee of Permanent Representatives reached an agreement on the matter, and the European Parliament is expected to vote in its favor next week. The EU official stated that pledging this sum from Europe, instead of borrowing from other countries, will send a significant message.

Yesterday, it was announced that the Committee on Foreign Trade of the European Parliament supported the European Commission's suggestion to provide Ukraine with a loan of up to 35 billion euros in support of the G7 countries' $50 billion macro-financial aid initiative.
