In 2023, emissions from household and economic activities reached 3.4 billion tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2), reflecting a 7% decrease from 2022 and an 18% reduction compared to 2013.
Data from the European Commission's website indicates that the most significant decreases in emissions over a decade occurred in mining (-25%, 18 million tons of CO2 equivalent), services (-20%, 54 million tons), and manufacturing (-17%, 142 million tons).
Emissions of greenhouse gases from households fell by 110 million tons of CO2, a reduction of 14%. Simultaneously, the transportation industry experienced a growth of 14% over the decade.
The level of greenhouse gas emissions (the amount emitted per unit of gross value added in the economy in euros) dropped by 32% from 2013 to 2023. Simultaneously, the added value of the European Union rose by 19%. Estonia (-61%), Ireland (-50%), and Slovenia (-41%) exhibited the most significant reduction in emission intensity.
