According to Bloomberg, Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, inked a deal with the European Union pertaining to long-term security obligations. The agreement was signed in Brussels, the site of the June 27–28 EU meeting. According to the newspaper, representatives of the union convened to talk about aiding Ukraine, the Middle East situation, and the Union's security policy.
The pact codifies the EU's pledges to aid Kiev, including the provision of weapons, training for Ukrainian forces, demining, and collaboration in the fight against hybrid and cyber threats.
According to a draft agreement between the EU and Ukraine that Bloomberg published in November 2023, the EU is required to ensure "a predictable, effective, sustainable and long-term mechanism for the supply of military equipment to Ukraine," which in turn helps to stimulate the European defense industry. The letter stated that the European Peace Fund, which reimburses EU member states for their costs, will be used to supply weapons to Kiev.
