According to information provided by Audi, Volkswagen carried out a “settlement deal” with the U.S. authorities for closing its “emissions scandals”. There are talks that by the month of October 2016, the case could come to a conclusion.
Following an investigation of “Environmental Protection Agency in the United States”, during the year of 2015, Volkswagen was found guilty of breaching its diesel emission levels in its “11m cars”, while the Sales and Marketing Head of Audi, Dietmar Voggenreiter, assures that so far the negotiations are going fine; he said:
"(We’re) in really good discussions with U.S. authorities. Hopefully in October, latest the beginning of November, we will have the final agreement with the U.S."
The continued “Dieselgate” drags an ominous shadow over Volkswagen as well as its “parent company Audi”; the second quarter’s profit for the former dropped by twelve percent, while the latter missed its “profitability targets”.
After the scandal, Volkswagen came out in public to admit that there was cheating on their part in the “emissions tests on their exhausts”. In the month of June, Volkswagen came to an agreement, whereby it consented to compensate “2.0 litre car owners” for “$15.3bn”, although the company still needs to look into the matter with its “3.0 litre cars”. However, Voggenreiter adds:
“We are just in discussions so I cannot judge how the authorities will judge our technical solutions; but I feel we have good technical solutions”.
