10/27/2017

The president of the European Council has made it clear that the EU will not deal with Spain and will not entertain any breakaway group.

On Friday, Donald Tusk, the president of the European Council stated that the declaration of independence by Catalania’s parliament’s is not likely to have any impact on the European Union, and changes nothing.

The European Union will only deal with the central government in Madrid.

The declaration of independence comes at a time when Spain was preparing to impose direct rule over the region.
“For EU nothing changes. Spain remains our only interlocutor,” tweeted Tusk while urging Spain to favor “force of argument, not argument of force.”
