China launches investigation over Canadian duties

09/27/2024

According to Xinhua news agency, the Ministry of Commerce in China is looking into Canada's proposed implementation of tariffs on various Chinese products being brought into the country.

As per the ministry's report, initial data suggest that Canadian tariffs are considered a discriminatory trade practice according to Chinese foreign trade regulations.

The inquiry is expected to last around three months. The timeline may be prolonged.

In late August, the Canadian government declared that starting on October 1st, they plan to apply 100% tariffs on Chinese electric cars and specific hybrids.

Moreover, there are plans to implement a 25% tariff on steel and aluminum goods from China starting on October 15 in order to safeguard Canadian workers from China's unjust trade practices.
