“We are implementing actions to address potential unforeseen shocks, which primarily originate from external factors. The Chinese government will introduce new policies if needed to ensure the sustainable operation of the Chinese economy,” Li Qiang said at the China Development Forum as quoted by the South China Morning Post.

The Premier also encouraged over 80 high-ranking executives from global companies assembled at the forum to take advantage of China's ongoing push for innovation. He stated that China will allow international investors into more sectors of its economy.

Li Qiang additionally encouraged global companies to oppose protectionism and expressed hope that entrepreneurs would take a more proactive stance in fostering economic globalization.

In early March, the US enacted tariffs of 25% on products from Canada and Mexico, along with extra tariffs of 10% on China. This was due to the fact that US President Donald Trump claimed China was insufficiently addressing the flow of fentanyl drug into the US.
