China Will See A 34% Rise In Flights Over Pre-Pandemic Levels
The announcement by China's aviation authority that it will raise domestic flight levels to 34 percent over pre-pandemic levels is expected to accelerate Chinese airlines' recovery.

China's main airlines on Friday announced their first quarterly profits in over three years, stoking industry expectations that the country's three major state carriers will eventually emerge from the COVID-19 crisis.

According to a press conference summary posted on the website of CAAC News, the aviation regulator, the Civil Aviation Administration of China will launch its winter and spring season flight plan on Sunday and it will remain in effect until March 30. The press conference was held on Friday.

With 7,202 additional weekly flights due to the introduction of 516 new domestic routes, there will be 96,651 domestic flights per week, or 34% more than during the same period four years ago.

According to the regulator, linkages between regional and hub airports like Shanghai, Beijing, and Guangzhou are the main focus of the rise in domestic flights.

Although they are recovering more slowly, international flights are becoming more popular. 16,680 weekly flights will operate over the next five months, accounting for 71% of all passenger flights four years ago.

According to the authority, flights to and from 22 nations—including Italy and Britain—have surpassed or approached pre-pandemic levels.

According to a post on Sunday on the CAAC News WeChat account, there would be 70 weekly direct passenger flights between China and the United States during the winter and spring, up from 48.
