Cartier filed a lawsuit in New York state court against Tiffany & Co. alleging trade secret theft. This was reported by Reuters.
According to Cartier, Tiffany & Co. hired a former Tiffany & Co. executive, Megan Marino, to go over the design details of their luxury jewelry collection, High Jewelry. Also, according to the lawsuit, Marino breached a non-competition agreement that she signed when she resigned and agreed to abide by for six months.
According to the agency, Cartier is attaching Megan Marino's own deposition to the suit, in which she claims Tiffany was more interested in her as a source of information than as a manager, and wrongfully terminated the woman within five days of starting her job. Cartier representatives described the hiring of Marino as a desperate attempt by Tiffany to revive its own fine jewelry division.
Cartier will seek a ban on the jewelry brand's use of trade secret data and will seek damages.
