On December 19, Mr Musk launched a Twitter poll asking whether he should step down as CEO and promised to follow the results. 57.5 percent of those who voted supported his resignation.
According to CNBC's sources, the businessman started looking for a new Twitter CEO before the poll was released. Following the vote, Elon Musk stated that no one qualified to lead the company wanted the position.
Musk paid $44 billion for Twitter in October. Since his arrival, the company has fired half of its employees and blocked prominent journalists' accounts. Despite their unblocking, the UN has expressed concern about human rights at Mr Musk's company. During a court hearing in the Tesla shareholder case on November 16, Musk assured that he assumed control of Twitter temporarily.
