In its decision, the company refers to the fact that Russia's closed airspace makes its operations more difficult and expensive, according to the Financial Times. Furthermore, British Airways acknowledges the declining interest in flights going this way.

There will be no flights from Heathrow airport to Beijing between October 26, 2024 and November 2025. British Airways will also maintain flights to Shanghai and Hong Kong.

Virgin Atlantic Airways Ltd. previously stated that they would cease operations on the London to Shanghai route starting October 25.

International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A., the parent company of British Airways, is experiencing a 0.6% decline in shares in London trading on Thursday.
