The former spouses are discussing several different options, according to the magazine, with the main one involving the creation of a new governing body, a board, and the involvement of outside directors.

Bill and Melinda Gates are currently serving as co-chairs and trustees of the foundation. In addition to them, the organisation has several other trustees, including legendary investor Warren Buffett, founder of Berkshire Hathaway.

According to the former spouses, the changes will help to keep the fund sustainable. However, no concrete decisions have been made yet.

The foundation of the founder and former head of Microsoft and his ex-wife is the largest private charity in the United States. It has spent $58.3 billion on charitable purposes in its 21 years of existence.

Bill and Melinda Gates announced their divorce in early May. As a result, Melinda Gates received six billion dollars worth of shares in various companies owned by her ex-spouse.
