Amazon.com is conducting its “early talks” for investing into MedPlus, an Indian Pharmacy, reported FactorDaily, a news website of India, on Tuesday, July 18, 2018.
MedPlus Health Services has more than “1,500 pharmacies” spread across India, while the pharmacy chain has also made its online presence through its online platform “MedPlusMart”. Furthermore, it also runs “MedPlus Pathlabs” centers for lab testing besides RiteCure which is a business of “surgical equipment distribution”.
In the words of an Amazon spokesperson:
“We do not comment on what we may do or may not do in the future”.
However, MedPlus could not be contacted for any comments on this matter. Only last month did Amazon began exploring into pharmacy space as it bought the “U.S.-based small online drugstore Pillpack”, as a result, the online retailer giant has come into direct competition with “pharma chains and drug distributors”.
According to Reuters:
“India has been an important growth market for the U.S. ecommerce giant, which expects groceries and household products to account for over half of its business in India in the next five years”.
