Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Alphabet, the parent company of Google, received $225.98 million in 2022, based on the company's Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filings. Pichai earned $5.9 million in total remuneration and bonuses, the majority of which came from the company's stock-based compensation, which was worth more than $218 million. His salary was $2 million.
According to the Financial Times, Pichai's remuneration could make him one of the highest-paid top executives in 2022. Only eight CEOs earned compensation of more than $226 million in 2021, according to data from the AFL-CIO, a combination of U.S. labor unions, quoted in the newspaper. Many American corporations have yet to publish the wages of their bosses. The announcement of Pichai's salary coincided with layoffs at Alphabet and Google brought by a dramatic drop in advertising income.
The CEO of Alphabet receives equity pay every three years. The past payout was worth $277 million. New data, however, reveals that Pichai earned $504 million on those shares, which was significantly more than the business had estimated, according to the Financial Times.
