ASML, a Dutch manufacturer of lithography equipment for chip production, has been given permission to construct a facility in Taiwan. According to the Taiwanese newspaper Taipei Shibao, the total investment will be close to NT$30 billion ($948.6 million).
The factory will be situated in Xinbei city's Linkou district. The plant will represent the bulk of ASML's investment in Taiwan. The project already has approval from the Urban Redevelopment Authority. The company anticipates getting Xinbei City municipal government's clearance soon.
The plant will start operating in 2026. About 2,000 jobs will be created after the project's first phase is finished.
ASML is the only supplier of equipment for deep UV photolithography in Taiwan.
